Nick Tywan

Nick Tywan is a Principal of AVP Hospitality and leads a solid team of professionals with a diverse hospitality-focused experience, including large & small hotel operations, asset management, hotel & resort management, acquisitions, and development. Nick has a unique perspective on hotel and vacation rental development, hotel management, and asset management. Nick regularly advises owners, developers, and investors on acquisitions, repositioning, branding, dispositions of hotels, and most important on how to improve their operating results.


With 40 years of experience as a top-level executive in the hospitality industry he holds an outstanding record of improving profit margins, enhancing revenues, extending market penetration, developing new revenue sources, and managing significant cost containment. His experience also includes hotel market studies & financial analysis.

His hotel property experience includes working for several large hotel companies and condominium resort hotels. During his career he has owed, consulted, and managed various brand affiliations including Shangri-La, Four Seasons, Trump Hotels, Ritz Carlton, Conrad, St. Regis, Marriott, Renaissance, Omni, Sheraton, Hilton, Hyatt, Holiday Inns, Embassy Suites, Radisson, Hawthorn Suites, Hampton Inn, along with various independent resort and vacation rental properties.​ He is also in high demand by the Vacation Luxury Home Rental Markets, Parking Industry and Airline Procurement Industry as an operator, consultant, and manager.

James Gould
Operations & Asset Management

Jim has more than thirty years of experience managing hotels & resorts in upscale markets. Prior to working with AVP Hospitality, Jim was the Regional Vice President of Operations for Portfolio Hotels & Resorts, overseeing full and limited-service properties. He is known as a transitional leader, developing award winning teams that produce exceptional results that provide value to customer, employee, and shareholder.

While at Portfolio Jim oversaw such brands as IHG, Marriott, Hyatt, and Hilton. In addition to his regional responsibilities Jim helped grow Portfolio from five hotels to twenty-four hotels over a two-year period. Jim was the main contact for the group's institutional investors such as Prudential, Och Ziff and Fidelity Investments. Jim worked on and oversaw due diligence, asset sales, and consulting projects as well as securing new management contracts.

Before joining Portfolio, Jim was general manager of Sofitel Chicago O'Hare, Rosemont, Illinois. He made his mark at the Sofitel by improving guest, employee satisfaction and market share to the highest levels in the history of the hotel. Jim developed and maintained the relationship with the owner, Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers. At Sofitel Jim also worked with the corporate office both leading or participating in the development of Sofitel’s “Business Continuity Plan”, the “Database Marketing Program” and the development of the Sofitel Chicago Water Tower. During Jim’s time as general manager the Sofitel Chicago O’Hare won: The Planners Choice Award, Pinnacle Award and Merit & Distinction Award for outstanding service for meetings and conferences held at the property.

Gary Gunderson
Food & Beverage

Gary has spent his entire career in the onsite foodservice industry. He was on the leadership team for Motorola Food Works, the leading self-operating foodservice program in the United States, and had the opportunity to create world class foodservice operations all over the United States, Mexico, Brazil, China, and Singapore. After leaving Motorola, he joined MBNA America Bank in Wilmington, Delaware as Executive Vice President and Director of Dining and Hospitality Services. One of the highlights of his career was receiving the IFMA Silver Plate Award for Business Dining in 2004. Our vision for AVP is to be recognized as the leader in onsite foodservice management consulting. Gary’s role is to ensure high quality products and services for our clients.

Alejandro Vazquez
Sales & Marketing

Alejandro has been in the hospitality industry for over 20 years. He leads all of our revenue initiatives including sales, marketing, revenue management, e-commerce and distribution and drives peak topline results for the company’s portfolio of independent, branded, full-service and select-service hotels. Leading sales teams to drive optimal results in all aspects of revenue generation. He is an experienced Sales Marketing professional with a demonstrated history of working in the hotel industry. Skilled in negotiation, building lasting business relationships, developing “Smart Sales Teams” and creating watertight business plans. Sales & Marketing professional graduated from California State University. Alejandro hotel brand experience includes Marriott, Hilton, Radisson, Westin, Sheraton, and many independent international hotels. Alejandro evaluates underperforming hotels and implements Task Force Assistance to train and mentor for optimal results.
